Don't forget the essentials

You are going to live in a foreign country, an overseas department or territory.
You are going to change your environment, way of life and professional world…It's an exciting prospect but it requires a lot of organisation.
Transcausse helps you not to forget the essentials!
Passport

Your passport must be valid on your departure date. If you need to renew it, go to your prefecture, except for Parisians who must apply to the town hall of their district.
Visa

A visa to visit or stay in the country is often required when you arrive in the country. Call the consulate of your destination country as soon as possible.
International driving license

Recommended but not compulsory, the international driving license is delivered by your local prefecture. NB: it is valid only if it is accompanied by your national driving license, and its validity time is the same as that of the visa.
Water, gas, electricity, telephone

Cancel your subscriptions.
Bank

Inform your bank that you are going abroad so that you work out with your manager how best to manage your financial affairs in your new situation.
Insurance

Take out an insurance policy before going away!
Taxes

Make an appointment with your tax office to pay off whatever you owe and obtain the tax certificate required for your departure.
Post

Go along to your local post office to register your new postal address.
Social Security

The states of the European Union have coordinated their social security systems. Some other countries have a bilateral agreement with France. In all cases, check with the Caisse des Français de l'Etranger (http://www.cfe.fr/).
School

For French schools or correspondence courses, get in contact with the Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Etranger (http://www.aefe.diplomatie.fr) or the Centre National d'Enseignement à Distance (http://www.cned.fr/).
Health

Consult your general practitioner to update your vaccinations, renew your prescriptions if you are following a special course of treatment, and arrange for the transfer of your medical file.
Pets

Every country has its own rules. So contact the consulate of your destination country for precise details of the formalities that will be required.
Vaccination certificate

Contact your vet to check that your pet's vaccinations are up to date and that it is vaccinated against rabies.
Certificate of good health

Your vet will issue this a few days before your departure.
Quarantine

Certain countries regulate the entry of pets into their territory (quarantine, ban, import permit, etc.). Don't hesitate to consult your local veterinary authority!
